sapuri surprise

Question: What kind of drama series gets its kissing scenes censored nowadays???
Answer: Japanese drama series from Poh Kim!!!
orz...

I don't believe it! But yes, it's true... conservatism at its peak! Bought the vcd set of Sapuri to feast on some eye candy over the weekend (ok, i confess! it's just to watch kame!), only to discover that..*shock*..they censored the kissing scenes! ..*still in shock*.. what era are we in again, fellas??

I don't know whether it's because the VCD set has both Malay and Chinese subtitles, so it's supposed to be distributed in the Malaysian/Indonesian markets.. and that's why it's being censored like this??

Omg, it's just kissing! And we all know how fake all these kissing scenes are in doramas, are they even worth censoring??

And then, in the very same disc, they mis-translated "BRAIN-STORMING" into "BREAST-STORMING". i kid you not. Repeated twice too. Talk about double standards. --;

Oh my, that is crazy~
You never have any kissing scenes shown on TV at all in Singapore?

hi seat!
gosh, not like that at all! i mean, yes, it's definitely shown! and more! that's why it's so bizarre that they actually cut the kissing scenes for this VCD set. it's also the first time i've come across such a thing! am very perturbed... XD

In that book that Li Yan bought me while I was there, Notes from an Even Small Island, the author describes his encounter with the Singapore Board of Film Censors. He'd received a Richard Burton film from a buddy in England in the mail, and the Board called him down to their office, told him he could either return the film or pay them to watch it and then pay again if they had to cut it. He was very upset but finally agreed, because he knew the film had less violence than a "Channel 8 kung fu 'family' drama."

The Board made two cuts: No. 1 - lady exposing both breasts (a topless belly dancer in the background of a scene). No. 2 - poster on wall in background has pictures of women exposing their breasts. What wasn't cut: a guy being beaten senseless in a men's toilet.

You live in a strange country, dear ;)

ooooh, don't get be started on the censors! i have serious problems with their double standards in many films!!!

but, in this case, it's definitely not the singapore board of censors at work. the boxset originates from malaysia, and is being sold, i assume, in the region, since there are both malay and chinese subtitles. there's really no way the board of censors would have cut those scenes -- i have at least so much faith in them about this. it's the pirates at work here.
